A word from the CEO

The search for the holy biomarker continues

Mankind’s search for the holy biomarker continues. The first decade of the 21st Century was transformative for lab medicine and biomarker research. Glucose, Lactate and proteomics research populated the scientific literature and made headlines in the popular press. True of any period of great change, the last decade was not without its controversies.

 Special congratulations to…

Dr. Hanne Birke Sørensen of the Århus University Hospital, Department of Plastic Surgery, Denmark.Hanne Birke

Dr. Birke Sørensen is world leading plastic surgeon whom just successfully defended her PhD thesis “Ischemia in intestinal segments monitored by the use of microdialysis - clinically and in a new experimental model”. The thesis is based on routine microdialysis monitoring of more than 300 patients over an 11 year time frame. The scientific results have been published in the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery and the World Journal of Surgery.

CMA congratulates Dr. Birke Sørensen on her PhD!

   New microdialysis research - highlights

• Lactate as an early marker of liver rejection
• Glycerol as a mortality marker in sepsis patients
• Lactate as a an early marker of brain trauma complications
• Glutamate as a marker of mortality in traumatic brain injury patients
• Glucose control in serum and brain. Important correlation in Subarachnoid
  Hemorrhage patients

New Microdialysis Pump Kit simplifies clinical microdialysis!

The new MD Pump Kit includes the necessary accessories needed for single patient microdialysis monitoring. The kit contains a syringe, a battery and a perfusion fluid ampoule necessary for running the CMA106 and CMA107 pumps. CMA offers two versions - for brain tissue including CNS perfusion fluid and for peripheral tissue including T1 perfusion fluid. The new MD Pump Kit reduces preparation time and allows new users to cost-effectively become familiar with microdialysis.

Introducing the new and improved CMA 450 for optimized temperature

The new CMA 450 Temperature Controller ensures exact and stabile body temperatures to enable the highest level of Laboratory Quality Control. The CMA450 is intended for monitoring and regulating the body temperature of small animals under anesthesia. Temperature accuracy from a preset value is only ±0.2 °C and because of no electrical noise and options as flexible rectal probe CMA 450 is the natural choice when needing a temperature controller.

CMA upgrades the standard of microdialysis with β-irradiated probes
and accessories.

In response to customer requests, CMA is proud to launch probes, guides and accessories that are β-irradiated for use in experiments where it is essential to minimize contamination by pathogens. The new products will be available during the spring of 2010. Initially it will be the CMA 7 probes and guides that will be available on customer order. Other probes and accessories will be available shortly thereafter. Remember, all CMA microdialysis probes are manufactured in a controlled clean environment under ISO 13485 standard.
Note: These probes are β-irradiated, but are not for human use.

ICUpilot software

The ICUpilot software is included when buying an ISCUSflex Analyzer and can be used to collect and monitor microdialysis data. If multimodal monitoring is wanted several external monitor connections can be purchased as options. Development of new external monitors can be priced and time estimated on request to CMA. From Apr 1 we will start to charge for the installation, training and support of the ICUpilot software. To get an updated pricelist please contact your CMA representative.
