StriCS is intended for use in measuring the metabolic status of the myocardium, by performing microdialysis in the Coronary Sinus. StriCS may be introduced percutaneously via the internal jugular vein and guided down to the Coronary Sinus, with assistance of Echocardiography. The catheter has an effective length of 55 cm and is made of radioopaque polymeric tubing and there is a marker band on the tip of the catheter.

StriCS consists of a 3-lumen tubing and has a microdialysis membrane close to the distal end. In the proximal end there are extensions with luer connectors for inlet and outlet of perfusion fluid. There is also a luer connector for the middle lumen, which is open in the distal end. In the middle lumen a stylet is premounted, which can aid in placing the catheter into the Coronary Sinus.

The catheter body is marked in 10 cm increments, which allows determination of how much the catheter has been inserted. The catheter is a Class III CE-marked product, intended for use up to 48 hours after insertion.

Other metabolites than glucose and lactate can be analyzed by collecting the dialysate in a microvial, specially designed to be analysed in the ISCUS Clinical Microdialysis Analyzer. The analysis results are shown as absolute values and trend curves that reflect the changes in organ chemistry over the entire period of patient monitoring.
